I am humbled and thankful to serve as your minister here at the Rivers Hill Church of Christ. This congregation holds so many special memories for me. It is the place where I was baptized into Christ and served as a child many years ago. To be serving here again with you is my great honor and blessing.
Genell and I look forward to serving and growing with you, as we together work to achieve Christ’s agenda in the lives of those who worship and study here. Through our congregant effort, we can grow nearer to Christ and assist others to accept His Calling. The idea of coming to Jesus, the Son of God, the King of kings, and Lord of lords, may sound a bit scary. Yes, we may even think that He is unapproachable. He tells us that He is gentle and lowly at heart, and that speaks volumes about how approachable He is. Imagine that you have the opportunity to meet the greatest Man who ever lived among us, and when you do, you remark; “He is a man just like me.” Well, that’s Jesus: a man like me and you, yet extraordinarily “God with us.” He ate and drank among us as one of us, yet, when He calmed the sea, His disciples remarked, “what manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him.” (Mark 4:41 KJV). He is the Son of God, and yet also, the son of man.
Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” The yoke, an emblem of subjection and service, was very familiar to the people of Jesus’ time.
Paul instructed the Galatians to “stand fast in the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage (speaking of the Law of Moses). The liberty Christ provides also sets us free from the bondage of sin, and thus, He summons us to come unto Him. It is His invitation to commit our lives as disciples of Jesus, dedicated to learning from Him, and accepting the obligation He places upon our lives.
Come Journey with us. The Christian life is a journey in which those committed to the cause of Christ are bound together through a common faith, a demonstrated love, and the hope of eternal life. We acknowledge that God's commands and precepts are not just a set of rules, but the knowledge and means whereby men and women "become partakers of the divine nature….” 2 Peter 1:4
